Conformation

At the conformation events the dogs are judge in comparison to their breed standard. An AKC licensed judge will look for the desirable structure, temperament, and movement and will pick a winner. The purpose of this competition is to judge future breeding stock and preserve the best qualities of each breed. People are very passionate about their dogs and  dog shows are a good excuse to share, compare, and educate the public who comes to see all these beautiful animals.
Show dogs are very well taken care and normally, these dogs are  not only beautiful to look at but, their breeders and owners  make sure that they are free of inherited conditions and diseases in order to insure healthy dogs in their breed for many years to come. To compete in an AKC conformation event you must have an AKC registered dog and learn the "etiquette of the ring" . Our club can help you learn the ropes and also to find handling  classes that will help you be successful in the conformation ring.

Specialty Shows

Junior handlers

In the All-breed dog shows, dogs compete  first within their breed for Best of Breed. Then, all of  the winners of the Best of Breed (or Variety) go on to compete to win Group One in each of the seven groups. All of the Group winners go on to compete for the coveted Best in Show. Every dog  owner dreams of  having a Best is Show winner. However, winning and placing in the groups is not a simple consolation prize.
In these shows  you only see dogs of one specific breed. The process is similar to a regular show, going from winning in each class to winning Best of Breed (or Best of Variety in breeds where there are varieties in either size, color, or coat). If you are passionate about a specific breed, this is the show to attend to see the best examples of that breed!
In this type of competitions  children from 9 years and up compete to be the best junior handler. This is a great competition that teaches not only handling skills but also how to win and lose gracefully which are the hallmarks of good sportsmanship. Junior Showmanship is where many great  future handlers showcase their skills and knowledge.
